Privlaka is a municipality in Zadar County of
Croatia; located on a large flat sandy peninsula (7 km long and 4 km wide) 18 km west of Zadar. It is characterized by a mild Mediterranean climate with
an average of 2540 hours of sunshine, annually. Shallow coastal sea but still providing
plenty of drinking water, which is still witnessed by numerous wells scattered
throughout arable sandy area.
Throughout history population has been engaged in activities primarily related
to the sea, such as fishing, sailing and "sabunjarenje" which is an extraction
of marine sand, and agriculture in particular viticulture.
According to the 2001 census, there are 2,199 inhabitants in the area, 98% which are Croats.
Today,
Privlaka is a tourist destination, primarily due to its numerous and
attractive sandy beaches, and conveniently located close to major roads.
